After Shanghai International Studies University, Tongji University, East China University of Science and Technology posted this year’s Independent Recruitment Scheme, Fudan University also announced their policy. Through strict evaluation and selection, the university will recruit no more than 155 qualified freshman students from Dongrun-Yau Science Award competition finalists, National Olympiad finalists, and participants of Wangdao Camp and Boya Award Humanities Study Camp.
According to the enrollment plan, 75 seats will be reserved for Dongrun-Yau Award/Olympiad finalists, mainly recruiting for undergraduate classes in mathematics, computer sciences and technology, software engineering, information security management, basic medicine, as well as the experimental class of natural sciences. There will also be 40 seats assigned to students selected by Fudan’s Wangdao Plan, who will be majoring in mathematics or basic medicine or admitted to the experimental class of natural sciences. Another 40 seats are for the Boya Award winners, mainly recruiting for classes in Chinese literature, history studies and philosophy. This is the first time that Dongrun-Yau Award winners are accepted into the university’s Independent Recruitment Scheme.
Fudan states that in accordance with instructions from the State Council and the Ministry of Education on the reform of college entrance exam, the university approves of Dongrun-Yau Science Award’s competition form and evaluation process, and welcomes the idea of focusing on innovation and team work instead of exam papers and standard answers, providing students with the chance to actually do research and submit reports on their findings. This is indeed an effective way to promote science studies in high schools, attract more students to scientific research, and encourage them to learn to be innovative. Therefore Fudan will try for the first time to include Dongrun-Yau Award winners in their Independent Recruitment Scheme. Students who have won gold or silver awards at nationwide finals during their high school years are qualified to apply for Fudan University through Independent Recruitment.
Qualified Dongrun-Yau Award winners may be accepted if their College Entrance Examination scores meet or total above the minimum passing score of first tier schools. For those whose overall score in mathematics (final competition score 70%, interview score 30%) ranked low, Fudan offers a 60-point preferential policy: the student may be accepted if his/her CEE score totals no more than 60 points below the university’s estimated minimum score for admission.
