Director Lo Yang

Renowned mathematician. A graduate of the Department Mathematics and Mechanics at Peking University. Former Director of the Institute of Mathematics at Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chairman of Chinese Mathematical Society, Chief Editor of Acta Mathematica Sinica. Member of the editorial boards of Results in Mathematics, Science China and Chinese Science Bulletin. Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Researcher and doctoral supervisor at the Institute of Mathematics.

Yang’s major research area is the modular and angular distribution of entire and meromorphic functions. Working together with Guanghou Zhang, they made great contributions to analytic function studies. A close relation was established for the first time between the numbers of deficient values and Borel directions of entire and meromorphic functions, a long-standing problem in mathematics was thus solved. It was known in the mathematical field as “Yang-Zhang Theorem”. Because of his outstanding achievements in the study of value distribution of functions, argument distribution and normal families,Yang received the Hua Luogeng Mathematics Prize in 1997.
